My Top 10 Films of 2012

I have put together a list of my favourite films of 2012.  I have a few honorable mentions and a list of films that I haven't seen that would probably be in my list.

I put together this list with the intention of having the films that entertained me the most this year apart of the list.  These films are not necessarily the best filmatic wise, nor am I saying they are.

* All pictures used remain with the copyright holder.*

Honorable Mentions

I have 3 honorable mentions that didn't make the list

Men In Black 3

This film went above and beyond my expectations.  I laughed, I cried and had an all-round great time while watching it.  But please, not Men In Black 4--it doesn't need it.

Chronicle

I love superhero movies and or stories and I love found-footage films, put them together and you get Chronicle.  This film was a dream for me, even though it has its flaws, I couldn't not mention it as one of the best of 2012.

Sinister

The imagery of this film is fantastic and the image of the demon really sticks with you.  As I was watching it I thought, this film is way to predictable and what I thought would happen at the end didn't and it totally redeemed itself.

Now for the list...

10. Skyfall

Although I have no been able to see Skyfall yet I already know I will like it and it will be in my top 10.  From what I have heard and seen of the film already this will definitely go down as one of the best bond films ever.  And I love Daniel Craig so that has also bumped it up.

9. Prometheus

The anticipation and hype that I had for this film before I saw it was so high.  This film didn't disappoint me at all.  Even though it did have flaws I was still entertained the whole time and liked it from start to finish.  I am not much of a sci-fi girl but this I really enjoyed.

8. Project X

As I mentioned before I do enjoy found-footage films and Project X didn't fail to capture my attention.  This film was unique to the found-footage genre and is one film that really gets you in the party mood.  Watch this before a night out and you will be wanting to videotape everything you ever do.

7. V/H/S

The third found-footage entry in this list is V/H/S.  I love the found-footage aspect mixed with horror.  This was fresh to me since it was an anthology (which will be very popular in coming years) and it wasn't the normal Paranormal Activity scary film.  Unique, original and keeps you glued to your couch! Can't wait for the sequel this year. Check out my review!

6. The Amazing Spiderman

I wasn't that excited for The Amazing Spiderman but man I should have been.  The film did have its ups and downs with plot and advertising but that didn't stop me from enjoying it.  I love both Andrew and Emma so it was great to see them.

5. Django Unchained

The 24th of January can't come soon enough! Yes, I have not seen Django Unchained yet but I know that it will be in my top 10.  I am a massive Tarantino fan and love everyone of his movies to death.  From what I have heard about this film is that it is a true piece of Tarantino work and every fan of his will love it.  So excited, can't wait! Bring. It. On.

4. 21 Jump Street

This was my favourite comedy of the year!  I love and chemistry between Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum and they were both brilliant.  This film even inspired me to write a story which has had great reviews.  A sequel to this will be a must see in the next few years.

Finger poppin' each others assholes!!

3. Looper

This was a fun sci-fi film to watch.  I enjoyed the plot and the simplicity of the films time travel theme.  The make-up on JGL was amazing--he looked so much like a young Bruce Willis.  There were a few times I had to look away because of the confrontational imagery.

2. Cabin in the Woods

As a massive fan of horror I appreciated this film so much.  I love intertexuality and references and this film had a ton.  It had an original concept and was not like anything I have seen before.  The film was very self aware and it reminded me of one of my horror favourites--Scream.  The only thing that would have made it the best film ever would be to have recognisable horror film villains in the boxes--that would be amazing!!

1.The Dark Knight Rises

A 2012 favourite film list would be incomplete without The Dark Knight Rises.  I had been waiting to see this movie ever since the credits rolled in The Dark Knight.  The hype that was surrounded this film was explosive and being a mad Batman fan I was so pumped for this film. This film was the perfect film to finish Nolan's Batman trilogy, it completed a part of me and I was so happy where they went with it and what they did, perfect!

What I am loving ATM?

I am going to start sharing a few things that I am loving at the moment.  I am hoping that people will read this and be open to the possibility of new things that they might not have ever heard of.

Music:

ASTA - Mt Heart is on Fire

ASTA has most recently won Triple J's Unearthed High with this breakout hit.  Love the style, will def make my summer play list.

Bag Raiders - Not Over

I have  always enjoyed the Bag Radiers's music and this song has been playing on my iTunes non stop.

Movies:

VS (All Superhero's Must Die)

This cam to my attention on Youtube and I have to say this looks like a really cool movie.  Will defiantly be catching this one.

TV:
Emily Owens MD

I taped this show my accident a few weeks back and I have to say I love it!  I usually hate the awkward, accident prone, geeky girl character but I really enjoy this one.  Emily Owens gets  thumbs up.

Clothes:

Its summer so I am bringing out the dresses.  I am in love with Stripey Maxi dresses at the moment, I think they are really trendy and stylish for this season.  I bought one the other day and can't wait to wear it--unfortunately I have really really bad sunburn :(

I hope you guys like this short and sweet post.  Have a great weekend!

American Horror Story--Asylum Episode 7

Episode 7 wasn't the best episode of American Horror Story  Asylum. I think it was really muddled and didn't flow like they usually do.

This episode just confirmed my suspicions without directly saying it.  The new Bloody Face will defiantly be Dr Thredson's son who will be born after he raped Lana.

How much bad luck can one women have.  Poor Lana, can't catch a break at all.  I feel so sorry for her.  She will end up pregnant by Thredson and probably die either in  child birth or in the hands of Thredson.

I was disappointed that no present day stuff was incorporated in this episode.  After such a gripping storyline last week it was disappointing that they didn't continue it.  Hoping that next week we catch a glimpse of what is happening.

I am finding this whole Grace and Kit storyline a bit boring now and I was surprised that she died.

Nice to see another familiar face in Frances Conroy as the Angel of Death (or its equivalent).  Love seeing people from first season back.  Hope she is in more episodes.

Finally it is out that Mary Eunice is possessed and Jude was the one to work it out.  This will be interesting to see how this plays out.  I see a cat fight coming on.  I actually really like Mary Eunice's character now, compared to how she was in the start.

The ending of this episode was so average I don't even remember what happened--usually they end on amazing moments.

After an average week of plot lines and acting, next week will surely be better.

Who else found this episode a tad disappointing?

American Horror Story—Asylum Episode 6

This show can do no wrong.  It is just brilliant.  It is only half way through the season and I feel like it has handled so many brilliant stories in its small amount of time.

I thought this while watching the show: 'how are they going to continue the present day storyline?'  Adam Levine is dead, wife—doomed and the team of random bloody faces, can't possibly be the Bloody Face.
But they have done it, fabulously.  I love that 'a' Bloody Face—not 'the' Bloody Face—is continuing what Dr Thredson obviously started.  The voice of this new mysterious Bloody Face was that of none other then Dylan McDermott, from the first season. of AHS  I think the hush hush on what he would be doing this season has been perfect, as I did not see this coming at all.
The present day storyline is now the storyline that is drawing me in to the show the most.  Can't wait to see what happens.

But this present day story also raises a lot of questions.  Does Dr Thredson get caught?  As nothing is said in the present day that suggests the the mistaken Bloody Face, Kit, is ever set free and the real one, in turn, caught.  Is this new Bloody Face related to Dr Thredson—as it is set 48 years from when he was Bloody Face—Dylan McDermott could easily be his son?

We will find out in due time.

This episode did not feature much of Kit or Grace,  or much stuff to with inside the asylum.  Most of it was backgrounds on the monsters of the series.  We learn that Dr Thredson hasa  mummy issue and thats why he skins women—who are all 33 years of age and the age of his mother when she left him.  We also learn that Monsignor Timothy Howard knows about what Dr Ardin has been doing in the asylum, but he didn't know how monstrous his experiements really are, until know.  I really thought that he would stand up against him, being a priest and all.  If he really was a man of God he would put a stop to Ardin's horrifying experiments, not save his own ass.

We get a bit of Mary Eunice's background—very typical background if you ask me.

Sister Jude is apparently leaving he asylum.  Hands up if you think this will actually happen?  I don't I think the creators wouldn't take her out of the asylum.  She will either stay, as Monsignor Howard will have a change of heart, or she will be a patient herself in the asylums walls.  I say this because she could easily be blamed for the Nazi hunters death as he claims a 'nun' attacked him.

Can't wait for next week and some answers!

American Horror Story—Asylum Episode 5

Spoiler Heavy Post

I knew it! I knew it!
Yes! Yes! Yes!

I love that Dr Thredson is Bloody Face!  This whole episode  it was stuck in my mind, why does he want Lana out so bad?  I think stated that he wants her to write his story, maybe that is all it is?  But I do see Lana not coming out of his alive.  Zachary Quinto plays such a good bad guy!  Did anyone else see this magnificent twist coming?

While I was watching this episode I kept looking at him and past memories of Syler (from Heroes) were appearing in my head.  Syler and Thredson, are one of a kind.

And poor Kit has confessed to killing his wife, that darn Thredson, he is a tricky bastard.  But smart!  I wonder if he ever was a psychologist.  My bet is that he killed the real Dr Thredson and his body will appear at some point before the season is finished.

In other not so much major asylum news, turns out that 'Anne Frank' was just a wannabe post-natal depressed housewife.  But she is correct about Ardin, as we learn from the photos up on her Nazi poster board.

And wow, Shelly is on the loose!  I found that scene to funny to watch just because  of the teachers reaction to the child screaming about a monster.  Turns out she was right!  I wonder where Shelly can go from here?  I don't think she will get too far.

A question popped up during this episode.  Why save Kit from sterilisation and not Grace?  Why does Jude do this?

Also speaking of Jude, what a frisky ferret.  She loves it.  But I still can't help but find her story lines boring, I prefer her romance with Howard and her combating with Ardin.

American Horror Story—Asylum Episode 4

In this episode we learn a little more about Grace—which I have been waiting for ever since the show started. She tells Kit that she was framed for the murder of her Father and Step Mother. But as the show goes on we learn that she actually killed her Father and Step Mother because of the abuse she was receiving. I found it a really hoot that the creators depicted her as an innocent girl and then showed that she actually is a crazy killer.

The whole Anne Frank aspect of this episode was fine—I don't know much about her but I do like how they incorporate famous names into their episodes. I enjoy the aspect of an alternative interpretation.

Ardin a nazi—would never have guessed ...

Kit second guessing his sanity was an interesting subplot, you would think that all of the people locked up in their would do that same. I still think he is innocent though, Bloody Face is still out there.

Speaking of Bloody Face, Dr Thredson is number 1 on my radar list as the serial killer. This is because of gross scene involving Lana, I don't think there is any psychologists out there that would make a patient do that. I get the feeling that there is more to him. Why does he want to get Lana out of the asylum so bad?

What the hell is going on with Shelly. I feel so sorry for the poor girl. Since that start I would have never thought that she would end up like this. Damn that Ardin! He is a sick fiend and I hope he gets his now that 'Anne Frank' has seen Shelly.

Another great episode!!

American Horror Story—Asylum Episode 3

*Sorry for late post I have been doing school work*

Oh my, wow!
What an ending this episode had.
I really really like Shelly and it is sad that Ardin had to cut half of her legs off.  I think this is just the beginning with Ardin and his weird behaviour.

Another thing that really intrigued me this episode was the interaction between Lana and Dr Thredson.  But it does make me question him and his motives.  I know he believes that Lana is not crazy but why would be go to her house to check up on her girlfriend?  I mean for all he knows Lana could be a whack job.  I just think its strange that he makes sure an effort for her.

I knew it! Sister Mary is being possessed by Satan.  It just made to much sense late episode that it was in fact Satan.  One thing I want to know about Sister Mary is why one earth was she helping Dr Ardin in the first place with his creatures?  I can understand why Satan would help hm, but why was she helping him before she was possessed?  I guess it might just be because of her weak personality and she might get persuaded easily.

Is it just me or do other find Sister Jude a bit boring?  I like her character but I feel that I am finding her subplots and story's boring compared to the other action that is going on in the show.  What do you guys think?

Can't wait to see what happens in the next episode, it was left on such a high point!

Tips: Surviving a Horror Film

It is safe to say that I have seen my fair share of horror films and everyone of them brings a new idea of how you can survive them.  There will be potential spoilers in this post, so read at your own expense.

Here are my tips to surviving a horror film.

1. Have a bad-ass twin brother.

Note: This doesn't work for twin sisters, they are usually evil.

2. Never get into a car with Thomas Jane.

As we learnt in The Mist (2007)

3. Being LL Cool J improves your chances.

Epic survival in Deep Blue Sea, not so much in Halloween: H2O.

4.  Don't be friends with Sidney Prescott.

She has a bad track record with losing friends via stabbing.

5. Don't ever take for your life for granted, Jigsaw will find you and 'play a game'.
* Warning: Play his games with caution most end up in death.

Think before you overindulge in your twenty-first century-ish life.

6. If you find a old and mysterious journal, which features a passage of writing in a foreign language, don't under any circumstances try and read it you dumb-ass.
* Also works in conjunction with mysterious unlabeled video tapes, just don't go there.

We have all seen the crazy shit that happens in the The Evil Dead and Cabin in the Woods.

7.  Next time you and your shitty friends accidentally kill someone: go straight to the police.  That mistake will follow you for the rest of your life--literally!

You might get 25 to life but at least you keep your life.

Goodluck and Godspeed.

American Horror Story—Asylum Episode 2

American Horror Story—Asylum

Episode 2—Tricks and Treats

Cya later Adam Levine!

This episode has introduced the idea that Kit isn't Bloody face.  I love the idea that Bloody Face is someone else and it will be interesting to see how this unfolds—I enjoy a good mystery.  At the moment my suspicions line up with Dr Arden, only because of his escapades outside of work.  If he isn’t Bloody Face then he still is a sick man who kills/tortures women.  He is a creepy, discussing, old man!

I thought Sister Jude was so evil giving Lana that shock theory just because she wants her to forget what she knows about the asylum for a news story.  What Sister Jude was doing is kidnapping and torturing, she had no reason to do that shock theory!  This just reinforces that Sister Jude is a bitch.

Yay, Zachary Quninto!  His character of psychiatrist Oliver Threadson is sent to the asylum to evaluate the Kit and determine if he is insane or just a psycho killer.  He seems like one of the good characters and looks like he will be counting Sister Jude a bit.  This shall be fun to watch.

The exorcism plot to this episode was so chilling; we were able to find out more about Sister Jude’s past through the demon and the mistakes she has made, for instance being promiscuous and being involved in a hit and run.  Mary now has the demon inside her; there is no doubt about it.  The demon seems really powerful and has ever knowing knowledge so it makes me believe that it might be, in fact, the devil.

I guess only time will tell, can’t wait until next week!

American Horror Story—Asylum Episode 1

American Horror Story—Asylum

Episode 1—Welcome to Briarcliff

I first heard of the show American Horror Story surprisingly on Perez Hilton … interesting I know.  He provided a clip of the opening credits and I was shocked how creepy it was.  Ever since then I have always watched out for it, but didn’t start watching it until the first season had finished.  Best thing I had ever done because I didn’t have to wait week by week to see the next episode!

Anyway, I was looking very forward to the second season of the horror anthology show—its right up my alley!

I have to say that this first episode of Asylum blow my mind! It was incredible, just what I wanted from the creators.

I am just going to talk about a few of the characters and plot lines we have been shown in this awesome first episode.

Opening:   So damn creepy, they really know how to create an eerie tone with imagery and sound.  The cast is fantastic btw, so glad to see some people from last season back—especially Evan Peters

The Lovers: This is a really awesome wrap around story and I love how it is presenting in the present day.  It is such an easy way for the creators to introduce the story and give a brief overview of the asylum and its celebrity patients.  I wonder if it will continue the entire season because I have no idea what else can happen from here other then: will they survive?

Bloody Face: I love that this killer is set up as a big, bad, dangerous mother fucker and it’s just Evan Peters—who’s character seems physically weak and harmless (before his encounter)— I find that so ironic because I was expecting someone else.

It will be interesting to explore his story for the rest of the season.  Was he really abducted or is he really insane? I would like to think he was abducted, but you can never be too sure in these sorts of shows. I got such A Clockwork Orange flashback while he was on the table being operated on.

Sister Jude: It really is the Jessica Lange show.  I love how her character is a mean bitch to the patients and Sister Mary but she is also positioned as the good guy against Dr. Arthur Arden. She also has a softer side with the romantic interest she has in Monsignor Howard, which will be interesting as it unfolds.  She is the one that connects all of the sub-plots together and I think she will be great this season.  I would like to know a little bit more about her, like why she is the way she is?  Has she always been like this?

Dr. Arthur Arden:  He seems like the big bad in this season.  I wonder what he is hiding.  It is obvious that it is some sort of animal/cannibal but why is he doing it?  He is a tad creepy in a mad doctor way.

Shelly: “You can shave my hair like a cue ball and I will still be the hottest tamale in this joint”.  Hilarious! Chloe Sevigny was born to place this character.  Was it just me or did her hair actually look really cool?  I would like to see more of her and I wonder how she will fit in this whole story, I hope she isn’t just a small character.

Lana Winters: I didn’t like Sarah Paulson in the last season but I really enjoyed her character in this one.  It will be interesting to see where her story will go from here.  Will she ever get out of the asylum?  Will she uncover the truth about the asylums secrets?  I guess the best place for her to get a story and investigate is being inside the place.  I also really dig that she is a lesbian, add’s a new dialect to her character.

Sister Mary Eunice: Sorry but I find her so annoying.  I just hate both the characters that Lily Rabe has played in American Horror Story, I can’t stand her.  She always plays weak, jittering and gullible female characters.  This will be hard to watch for me.

Overall, it was a great start to the season but I was disappointed that Zachary Quinto wasn’t in this episode.  It would have been great to see him in action.  Can’t wait for more!
